Shade and Light
67
I watch the dappled shadows flirt
With the evening light, like a dance
Set to silent music,
The rhythm of romance.
Without the shade, would the rays
Be tripping this light fantastic? No!
And so they play their game
Sometimes fast, sometimes slow.
Their stage is everywhere you look
The grass, the leaves, the garden gate
The sunset breeze quickens
Their movements – it’s getting late.
Suddenly, the wrought iron chairs grow dark
And seem so bare
Bereft of love’s light-stepped tread, now gone
No more magic there.
Only till tomorrow comes and then
The dance of shade and light begins again.
Thank you Kenny Wordsmith for letting me use this wonderful visual.

Thank you for posting this wonderful poem
I really enjoyed this, Shalini. Nature surely has its own rhythm doesn't it? Awesome job, thank you!
Love this; thanks Shalini.
Shalini--now this is beautiful! Your speech of the shades of contrast in your poem is soothing. Relaxing words. Fantastic read! Cris choose just the right words to express your work--I agree 100%
This is such a calming verser. It is almost like a lullaby.
What a beautiful poem, so rich and soothing.
Oh, Shalini Kagal, you've found your true calling. You're a poet extraorinare... Do some more poems. That was just fantastic. Don White
I too have this fascination for the patterns created by light on the canvas of our mind's eye .
Wonderfully worded Shal ...let's hear some more :)
Wow ! Shalini, that was so good I was IN the garden ready to pull up a wrought iron chair and relax for the evening. Beautiful. x
This is a very beautiful poem! The silent music plays throughout the verses. Thank you for sharing it!

Thank you very much for sharing Shalini!
This was very soothing to the soul. The picture does blend perfectly with your descriptive words. Great job.
Shalini, such a beautiful poem, to me it expresses mixed emotions. Closure, rebirth, restful.
The image is perfect for the piece and thankyou for introducing me to 'Kenny' :-)
Shalini, your poetry moved me. I can picture it the dancing lights that create the depths and aliveness to things. Thank you for such a beautiful hub. Now I must visit Kenny's site. :)
Lovely words. Well done and very enjoyable.
For me, the beauty of your words speaks of the faith that tomorrow comes again and with it another chance to learn what was missed the day before. Gorgeous.
Wow! This poem is absolutely amazing and beautiful
This is a beautiful poem. It reminds me of the Louis MacNeice poem, 'Sunlight on the Garden', but this is much gentler and prettier.
Such a beautiful poem. I love the metaphor and the picture as well.
Very nice. Lovely poem.
Your poetry felt fluid, languid and mellow to me. Just lovely Shalini. Thanks for sharing.
callmefoxxy, my pen is a mighty sword!
This is such a nice poem. It is quite soothing to make a person's day light.
Top job and written so professionally. :)
This was really cool. I enjoyed it.
You should follow me and read some of my hubs.
My pleasure and honour, Shalini! My picture is in the wonderful company of profound poetry! Thank you. :)
And thank you, Agvulpes and Michelle, you wonderful ripplemaker. :)
nicee hub shalini :)
How beautiful! There are so many symbiotic relationships like light and shadow - positive and negative spaces - I had a drawing teacher who pointed out that you have to concentrate just as much on the negative spaces as you do the positive, pain and pleasure, who said "Without pain there can be no pleasure" ? Was it Khalil Gibran?
Anyway, I look forward to reading more.
Shalini...
Beautiful poem! So full of profound truths and a wondrous subtext that links it to Life itself. What´s Light if there´s not dark to illuminate? What´s hatred but absence of love?
I loved it! Thumbs up!
warmest regards and blessings,
Al
Wonderful poem with such beautiful imagery.. reminds me of my garden.. hmm :p Love it, Shalini!
oh yes this was absolutely lovely, so much depth to it. thankyou
Hope this will be a first installment in a series: "Cantos of Light and Shade", perhaps? Seemed like the interplay of your words with the image you chose was yet another metaphor for the interplay of light and shade. I repeat: hope there'll be more!
I love the way the rhythm of this poem is like a dance too, 'sometimes fast, sometimes slow'. Really enjoyed it')
Lovely poem and the idea is great too - light and shade give depth to everything.
Love and peace
Tony
I really like this idea of poetry with a visualize - it is just that much more stimulating. Lovely, this slowed my breathing down and made me more aware of it - which is such a good thing.
Thanks so much for this break which I so desperately needed - and didn't realize it until now.
Lovely - and rated up!
Awesome

I love how this played up - like an impressionist painting. The playful movement, the sense of fleetingness... Most things won't exist if not for the dichotomy, the dyad, the contrast, the dualism. Great read, thanks for sharing :D
