The Colours Of Summer

66

By Shalini Kagal

The mercury keeps
rising with each day
The soil is parched
and looks up to the sky
Hoping that the heat
will pave the way
For summer showers that
bid dry earth goodbye.

Despite the burning,
shimmering haze of heat
The trees stand tall
and proud with arms outstretched
As if to say with sun
they are replete
The burst of colour
on each branch is sketched.

Come summer and the
trees do don their best
As with the sun for
vibrant looks they vie
Now they don’t wilt,
oh, no - they preen with zest
To summer sunlight,
what a great reply.

And so it is, and
ever it will be
Every season has its
own beauty.

Lovely poem. Got homesick looking at the pictures of plants and trees so familiar, each with it's lovely and colorful beaut, inspite of the heat, inspite of the noise, blooming freely for all to enjoy.

BkCreative - thank you though I must admit it's nothing as glorious as your autumn colours. I still remember my first drive from Washington to Boston one October long ago and how I sat stunned at the beautiful colours of the trees.

FP thank you, thank you - I hope the poem didn't give you indigestion you philistine :D

HPR - yes, of course but till the rain comes, let's enjoy the beauty of summer :)

Hi coz - time you came home for a visit and drank in the sights and sounds :)

Lovely, Shalini! I like the poem & the flowers!

In southwest Texas where I grew up, the summers are very hot and long - though they are dry. Here in Dallas - a little less dry but still must water the lawn all summer - which starts early and stays late!

I had the privilege of driving from New York City, through Connecticutt and Massachusetts & up to the tip of New Hampshire one autumn when the trees were ablaze. It truly is a spectacle. I've lived in Indiana where there are pretty fall colors too - and even here in Dallas we have some pretty fall leaves, provided there's been enough rain. Otherwise they can just turn brown and fall off.

I enjoy the seasons. And here in February we have blooming japonica which are a glorious riot of coral color, sometimes even with the white background of snow when we get it, which is erratically at best. The japonica last through March usually.

Then we have many other lovely flowers. In the summer crepe myrtle and magnolia are gorgeous - along with many other blooming trees, shrubs and flowers. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous array with us!

Nellieanna - thank you so much. I wish we could water the lawn too but we don't these summer months (March to May end)because of a water shortage. Then the rains come in June and everything is wonderful and moist. But the trees have roots that go down deep so they look great right through the hot months.

Yes, those fall colours are incredible and the first sight of them is imprinted in my mind. I love the various shades of the leaves - from yellow to orange to maroon to brown!

Hi-

Loved your poem, and the photos were beautiful. I've never lived where there was much autumn color, but my mom was from New England, and took her vacations to go 'home' in the fall just so she could see the colors again.

I love summer--escaping San Francisco's fog-bound summers is the reason we moved to where we are today.

You have those trees and flowers in front of your home? They are beautiful, and yes, every season has its own beauty - I like that.

Enjoyed the poem and visuals!

Shalini Kagal. Hi. What a beautiful poem.

The colours in Summer are extraordinary.

We are very fortunate to have a Bore Pump that keeps our Garden from dying in 40 plus degree temp. during the Summer months.

Yes I agree, every season has it's own special beauty.

I loved this hub and will read it again. Thank you for sharing it with us. :) :)

DzyMsLizzy (love the name!) - thank you. It's incredible how each season can be so beautiful, isn't it?

VioletSun - Yes, all around - some in our garden, some outside. Thanks as always for reading.

Jill - thanks! - yes, there's a lot of colour right now and in a moth, it will be just shades of green once the rain comes in June.

oliversmum - appreciate it :) It's great to have water for the plants when it's so blazing hot but the water levels are down in summer where we are - and people's needs get priority :)

Beautiful..how words paint a picture! I mean; who can think of sweat, car without AC and no shade to park, humidity, the scorching-burning sun, no cold water as the sun boils the roof-tanks and umm..well..the likes when anyone reads you here?!?

And yes I am missing India!
